We decided to head out of Sydney today and check out the Olgas, Michael McFadyen has it listed on his site. An early start out of the boat ramp at Shellharbour we headed around Bass Point to the GPS marks. Couldn't see a lot on the depth sounder so we headed towards the Arch, then we noticed a big lump on the bottom. I quickly marked it and we anchored.
We descended to quite a interesting landscape lots of boulders on a rocky lucky stone bottom. Interesting but not a lot of life.
Second dive we looked at the Arch but decided to dive the Hump. Our GPS marks again were a little off and the anchor wouldn't grip. As one of the tanks was a little light on Nitrox, rudy decided to sling it like a stage. Well after 3 attempts we couldn't get the anchor to hook in so I decided to pull it to the surface. We normally just lift it off the bottom and move the boat and drop it once at the marks. When it surfaced I could see why it didn't hook in. The anchor had tangled itself in the chain as was hanging upside down. I released it and we headed back over the hump and dropped it. Hooked in first go at 18m.
We headed down to the sand line and then around the hump, saw a weedy and a lone PJ swam past. The vis was around 5m not to good. As we came back to the anchor a Seal decided to drop in and pose for the camera. It was very playful. With my G11 and housing on its way to Patima, I had my old S70. The photos are a little dark but I got them.
Olgas.
