Port Kembla was the destination until the weather report showed gale force winds off the Illawarra coast so we decided, yet again, to venture into Botany Bay.
At first it looked a little less rough than last week, so we headed over to Kurnel. Looking for a nice spot out of the wind we found a protected spot about 50m off the red point marker on the cliff.
We were in 15m of water, and as we hit the bottom it was all weed. We finned a little north about 10m and came to a wall about 10m high dropping down to 20m.
This is a fantastic macro area, I have never seen so many different kinds of nudi's in one spot before.
The colour here is also quite good. Other fish we saw here for the first time was a Velvetfish and a Tassel-snouted Flathead
Our surface interval we headed over to Bare Island to take a look, it was pretty sloppy over there so we headed back to Kurnel to investigate the shallower rocks of the point. The surge picked up vis dropped to about 3m and the wind picked up. Time to go.....
