Today.... well what a boat trip. I guess it is wise to check the weather forecast before venturing out ...
We headed to spider cave (Jervis Bay) to what we thought was going to be a fantastic dive, then we were going to either smugglers cave or the docks and then onto the Firefly........... Well plan B and C came into action. Took us about 20mins motoring to get close to Bowen island.
Firstly the wind was a little blowy and as we reach Bowen island we decided plan B was the go. We headed for the docks and anchored just off Double Decker cave, geared up and over the side. Checked the anchors and had a great dive for 60 minutes. The vis was a little milky but was pretty good at around 10-15m.
As we surfaced we looked around and saw that the wind had slowed and he conditions were quite flat. Our surface interval was to be about an hour (we were on 36% nitrox) well at about 45mins, the wind just blew in, we pulled up the anchors and headed into the small bay at the docks, the 2 Deep 6 boats were anchored there, it was very sheltered.
We decided to do a second dive here and see if the conditions would get better, another great dive but the conditions got worse... It took us just over 60 mins to get back to the boat ramp and the bilge pump was working overtime pumping out the water.
We saw a 2m swell and breakers inside Jervis bay. But it does live up to its reputation for some great diving.
